Tumbleweed. I did a zypper dup last night. Had around 700 packages if I remember. Once it was done, received message kernel was updated, recommend rebooting. I reboot. And after the BIOS splash screen, the screen turned a dark grey, and had 3 green dots on the top left corner. after 90 seconds, it sent me to what appeared to be the post messages and was frozen. I reboot and same thing again, but after waiting, it gave me a text based screen asking me to unlock my encrypted drive. Then it waited a long time and eventually took me to the recovery command prompt, asking for my root password. I dug through the journalctl but nothing jumped out at me. So I just rolled back. Back up and running. Today I tried to update through the update center GUI. Asked me to reboot at the end, and same thing. After BIOS spash screen, the light black (dark grey) screen with 3 green dots in the top left corner. THis time it timed out after 90 seconds and loaded a frozen post messages. Rebooted same behavior. Never got a prompt to unlock encrypted drive. BTW, I have NVIDIA graphic card, I’m using SecureBoot, and I have my partition encrypted. KDE spin. Typically,on reboot, I see BIOS splash screen, then GUI asking for crypt password, then into the standard user account, password screen. No idea how to pull the logs from those failed boots after a reboot. journalctl has a gap 10/15 to now. I thought for sure I wouldn’t be the only one with this problem, but looks like it. Not sure what is unique about my setup. Help debugging this would be appreciated. Just realized that when I rolled back, I didn’t do the snapper rollback, just loaded the older kernel. 6.17.0-2-default. I also have 6.17.3-1, but presumably that causes my boot issues.
There have been some other threads about this issue.
Keep using that older kernel, until a fix arrives. There is supposed to be a fix with kernel 6.17.4, but I don’t know when that will show up.
I thought I searched,i’m sorry for creating another thread. Any chance you could point me to a thread with similar issue, or tell me what to search for? Feel free to close this as redundant as well. Any idea what the factor contributing to this issue is? Thanks
