Installing Cinnamon desktop

Hello,

I’m trying to get Cinnamon to run on a newly installed openSUSE Tumbleweed system that was installed with XFCE.
I’ve installed Cinnamon via zypper -t pattern cinnamon.
However, when I select Cinnamon at the display manager and login, I am met by a green screen for a few seconds, which then turns black and then nothing more ever happens.
I can left click to make the selection rectangle appear, and I can right click to open the desktop menu.
But there is no panel and I can’t really do anything.
I installed Tumbleweed on a VM, and the exact same thing is happening.

Does anyone know what’s going on here?

There are several threads…

Yes, I found those but they are locked, which encourages users to make new posts about the same topics.
Nothing has improved, the https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1250876 topic isn’t progressing.

So I am asking again, what is going?
How can we fix this?

…deleted…(funky forum software)…

Read the first thread. Especially the comments from shundhammer.

Additional informations can be found in the Cinnamon Portal at the wiki.

Yeah pretty sad situation isn’t it. Was pretty much informed that if the community does not have time or want to fix it it will just stay broken.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but you are the community, just like any other user here. And things like this don’t just magically get maintained via wishes and dreams.
