Xfce 4.20 not displaying distro logo in About Xfce

Was advised to start a new thread for this issue.

Original screenshots are at Xfce 4.20 Desktop Issues - #25 by epp

Per other thread, running zypper se -s xfce4*branding* shows the following:

tumbleweed (displays branding):

dell (does not display branding):

One other desktop is also not displaying the branding (also with Intel). Both of these had Tumbleweed installed brand new a couple of weeks ago. The openSUSE-20241215-0 repository was automatically enabled on both. It appears to be a duplicate of Main Repository (OSS) and was added by the install image directly.

After disabling the 20241215-0 repository, the same zypper command as above, now displays the same information as in the first graphic:

And on a reboot after the 20241215-0 repository was disabled on the Dell, it did not result in a change to About Xfce, still no branding.

Please advise if any additional information is required, or if a bug report is necessary. Thank you.

Not on the problem, but about the way of posting.

Those images can not be used to search in the text, nor can they be used to be partially quoted in answers. and as last they create headaches and tears in the eyes for some.

Please, to make your posts better consumable by technical oriented people:

Thank you.

As mentioned in the other thread, a separate desktop, with Tumbleweed installed from the same image, also with Intel hardware, does not have the branding. Running the same command on it, results in the same output shown as the Dell laptop above.

Thank you for any assistance.

Coming back to the way of posting code. You should always include the command by including the line with the prompt and the command within your copy sweep. It is only one line more (not too difficult I hope). It shows then everybody exact what you did and what you got. And there is no need to type that in a story which all the changes of making typos and

is a terrible mix of command and story telling.
.
As an extra re using the shell.
When you want characters that are special to the shell begin offered without change to the arguments you give to a program called from the shell, you should “quote” them.
E.g in.

the two * there are special to the shell and will lead to the shell trying to do path expansion to see if any path/file name is found answering to the pattern xfce4*branding*. Now it is in this case unlikely that any file is found and thus, to your luck, the string is left unaltered. But better not expect this and do quote. E.g.

zypper se -s "xfce4*branding*"

@hcvv I hope the following posts are now satisfactory.

You can see where the first line is being removed when attempting to format the text.

(duplicate post)

I am only trying to help you for next time. People will accept what you already posted (but with suspicion  ).

Do you see yourself that post #12 is OK, that in Post #13 you forgot to use Preformatted text?

And I do not understand your talking about the ~ (tilde) characters. For Preformatted text one uses the ` (back quote) characters. Both the same key, but with and without the Shft key.

On my opinion it is not that difficult, but as things run now it is taking too much time and space not dedicated to your problem.

I meant the backquote, not the tilde.

The images showing the lack of branding are in the other thread.

If people look at the posts with suspicion and no one wants to help, then fine. I can just as easily install another distro.

The fact is that they look with suspicion and nevertheless will try to help. But it helps the helpers enormously when you post computer code as Preformatted text (which isn’t that difficult I guess, because most posters here are perfectly able to do so). And you can see for yourself how malformed one of your posts is (after you did one perfectly). Part of the command is italic, all columns distorted.

I am sorry to understand that you are upset by this. But normally we only have to explain that once to a new user.

It shouldn’t be that hard to read and follow the instructions
you need to paste the text between the backquotes
