WiFi connection in openSUSE Tumbleweed

Hello,

Recently I installed the following on my desktop, which works very good :

Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20240624
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.3.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Kernel Version: 6.9.5-1-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 4600G with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 15.0 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics

Now I want to create a WiFi connection on it : I tried already with two TP-Link wireless USB adapters : TL-WN823N en Archer T4U. This without any success !

Please can you propose me a solution to create a WiFi connection : step-by-step in all details if needed, because I am not an expert.

Anyway, many thanks for your reply (we hope to see a solution).
Best regards.

The first

The first step is to check that the device is supported with a driver.

usb-devices

and a wireless network device exists

ip a

You can also watch journal logging when you first plug the device in

sudo journalctl -f

You can capture the output and post here if further help needed. If necessary, copy to a USB storage device and transfer to an internet-connected device to share that information.

If the device is not supported (no driver loaded for the device concerned) , you may need to add a suitable driver package. This thread may be of value to you…

Hopefully the above topic is still relevant.

Let us know how you get on.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
I applied it but no success at all.

You didn’t share any useful information either. Review my post again and return with that requested information. Otherwise we can only speculate.

Close to the system’s clock there is a network icon. Does it show wireless networks names when you click on it? image

Are you affected by this error?

Hello,
No wireless networks shown.
Best regards

Hello,
Could be, but do not find a solution.
Best regards.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
This is for me (beginner) much to complicated and I want to stop this.
Sorry and best regards.

Maybe you would like to choose a more user friendly GNU/Linux distribution. Also, it is wise to check with hardware vendor if they provide support to the device in Linux.
