Hi I did a fresh install (KDE) run system updates and installed codecs
plus I ran
Zypper dup --from Packman
when I play audio (songs) with Amarok or VLC or youtub channels I get intermittend dropouts (zero volume).
Is there a codec missing ?

Since your default sink is a USB mixer (BEHRINGER_X18_XR18), the dropouts may be related to PipeWire buffer settings rather than codecs.
The way to check this is using pw-topwhile playing audio, and observe whether the XRUN counter increases, especially during the dropouts.
If it does, try increasing the PipeWire buffer size. Create “~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d/quantum.conf” with
context.properties = {
default.clock.quantum = 1024
}
then restart the services
systemctl --user restart pipewire pipewire-pulse wireplumber
and test again.

To apply it system-wide for all users, place the same file in the /etc/pipewire/directory (which you can create first if necessary).
USB power management may also be at play. Some USB devices behave better if autosuspend is disabled.

I found “pipewire” details in /usr/share/pipewire => minimal.conf spells out buffer size etc.
That was the good news. … still get drop-outs …according to pw-top 3 errors caused by the behringer usb device, one caused by Amarok. (40 minutes play time)
I was using the behringer equipment for the last 5 years without any problems using
Leap 15.x.
Also running on a 2nd machine 15.6 when connected to behringer , no problems .
respectively … on a former install of Tumbleweed installation the problem did not occur (was killed for other reasons, or better actual problem is still unknown)
The reason why I ended up with Tumbleweed was problems with installing 16.0 !!!
This to a degree that contemplated to jump ship. Ubuntu or Fedora.
Anyway, what to do ? Another fresh install ?!?

I can only speculate here. TW is using a newer PipeWire version, so it could be a factor. You could try increasing default.clock.max-quantum to 4096 perhaps, and disabling USB autosuspend.
The files in /usr/share/pipewire come from the package and are defaults. Don’t make any changes there, as they will be overwritten on an update. For admin-specific changes, put your configuration in /etc/pipewire/.
