I have Tumbleweed VMs on Windows 11 VirtualBox (version 6.1) hosts. I do the TW updates pretty much when Discover offers them. Around the end of August, the graphical desktop (KDE) would no longer start up. Unfortunately I no longer know with which updates the problem began.
I found a message in journal that vmwgfx is not compatible with the hypervisor and assumed that that was the problem. But it seemed that after some Tumbleweed update, the VirtualBox Guest software was only available for VirtualBox 7. So I assumed I needed to upgrade VirtualBox to version 7. So I upgraded it to 7.2.2. But to no avail! The graphical desktop would still not start and the journal message continued to indicate that vmwgfx is incompatible with the VirtualBox.
The following topic gave me the solution Tumbleweed on VMWare Fusion Black Screen at update
But for users of VirtualBox I suggest removing the package “xf86-video-vmware” instead of deleting or renaming the kernel module, vmware_drv.so, as suggested in that topic. It works, but may not be as sustainable. I have no idea how the package got installed on my 2 Tumbleweed VMs. But this seems to remove the vmware_drv.so deemed the culprit for VirtualBox. (It seems to also be a problem with VMware under certain circumstances as is the theme of the other topic mentioned here.)
By the way, the error message in journal with the incompatible vmwgfx continues to appear, but it still works.
VirtualBox will no longer let me choose alternate video drivers VBoxVGA or VBoxSVGA. I can only use VMSVGA!
I hope this may help some TW VM users implementing VirtualBox.

Note it is not good to rally on discover for updates always use zypper dup
Yeah, I’m sorry about that, but while searching for a solution, the only relevant post I found was the post I mentionened. (“Corrupted” does seem to be a rather odd wording for an inappropriate software package.) I’m new here and don’t what the common practice is. Should I delete my post/topic? (Can I delete it?)
Sorry if I made that impression. I’m not “ralllying” for anything. I do use both Discover and zypper – especially if Discover has “conflicts”, with which it can’t deal. But that is all a different issue.
