Tumbleweed on VMWare Fusion Black Screen at update

Hello

I’ve been using OpenSuse Tumbleweed in VMWare Fusion several years ago, no problem since today…

I’m trying to update my system as usual, but when the machine restarts it goes to black screen, my Video card is AMD Radeon RX 570 4 GB - 3.1 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5, with 32 Gb of memory.

The OpenSuse details:

I’m not tech savvy, I know that I should add, remove, modify some lines, I need easy instructions

I would like my machine runs as always, tried with a fresh install, but the same error, Black Screen at start, my suspicion I think is something related to the new kernel that is causing problems.

Help is very welcome,

Best Regards,

George

After doing the update, do not reboot. Go to /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers Then rename or delete vmware_drv.so next reboot.

OMG!

I was having similar problems with tumbleweed and slowroll on virtualbox and vmware workstation (on windows), black screen after the latest updates (kernel 6.16), and even with new installations.

This fixed the problem, thank you so much!.

Why is it necesary to reneame or delete that file?

Give the thanks to @rosslm :grinning:

Why is it necesary to reneame or delete that file?

I have no idea, maybe an old configuration didn’t update or stuck and refuses to update, it’s my theory.
