@tckosvic this shouldn’t be anything new for you?! This happens regularly and you even participated in one of the many threads which are always the same…“Buhuhu, why several thousends of packages gets updated”…
This already got explained as often these threads pop up…
Folks:
I’ve posted on the forum previously about the large number of package upgrades that will show up . . . in what is supposedly a rolling distro, and yet the behavior continues . . . . This morning, a mere week after the last upgrade was done in TW, the updater showed “2321” packages available to upgrade . . . should be “major system upgrade” . . . essentially moving from one kernel to the next iteration, 5.17.4 to 5.17.5???
I blithely began the process in the GUI console at 8:01 AM my lo…
WTF! over 5000 updates to apply. I run updates daily so it’s not cumulative.
It wouldn’t be so bad if I had a fast broadband link but I’m trying to update a couple of laptops over a SIM wifi and it’s taken a day for each. Not to mention I’ve had to use zypper dup from the CLI and watch the output as the connection is flaky so I need to hit retry every now and again as I lose signal.
OK, so I’m sure it’s necessary, I’d just like to know why.
Hi.
Since weeks I have a huge update with more than 2000 packages and yast2 makes me questions I dont know how to answer or decide.
I dont know what to do, maybe a fresh install?. Please give me some advice about this.
Thanks in advance.
Dup to Tumbleweed 20220219 consisted of 2417 packages, 2.3G altogether. For peace of mind the upgrade was performed in two steps:
zypper dup --download-only --no-confirm --allow-vendor-change --allow-downgrade
zypper dup --no-confirm --allow-vendor-change --allow-downgrade
Zypper would ask no questions and complete the second step in real 12m53.843s, user 4m30.266s, sys 4m18.520s.
