I have added the openSUSE’s mac address along with a reserved IP
https://imgur.com/a/V3LwE
Do i have to match it with the yast set-up on my openSUSE’s machine?
Thanks!
Now you can set your openSUSE machine up to use DHCP via YaST > System > Network Settings. Configure your ethernet NIC to get a DHCP address at boot. It should get the reserved IP address. Check with
ip address
Once done, you can try pinging the router gateway address (192.168.0.1), then try a well-known internet address eg 8.8.8.8
It can ping now sir
Thanks for your guidance, but i have another issue, the fact that the installation guide needed me to set-up a statically assigned IP wasn’t done on the process of connecting to the internet
You’ve effectively done the same thing by using a DHCP reserved address in the router.
Now the firewall needs to be taken care of. The ViciBox has a firewall (SuSEfirewall2), but your router is effectively doing the same thing. What is the ViciBox going to be used for? Web server?
Yes sir, it will be used as a web server
You could disable the openSUSE firewall, as the router is doing this job, and easiest to configure one device IMHO. To disable the openSUSE firewall do
sudo systemctl stop SuSEfirewall2
sudo systemctl disable SuSEfirewall2
Here’s a guide showing you how to do port forwarding on your router
You’ll need to forward port 80 (for http) and port port 443 (for https). Once the required configuration is done, you will be able to use the ViciBox as a web server.
Just a follow-up question sir,
should it be broadcasting the assigned IP now?
I can reach your public IP address. With appropriate port forwarding enabled in the router, the web server should be accessible (via the public internet IP address).
will do the portforwarding set-up sir, i also did the stop firewall command and it says firewall is not loaded
Good Day,
I can access the domain i’ve entered but only on the PC that runs in the same router,
also i followed the guide you’ve posted along with the ports you posted as well

That’s all as expected. In order to reach from the internet, you’ll need to purchase/register a domain name (eg foo.com)associated with your public IP address, then you’ll be able to reach the device with its full qualified domain name (eg something like vicibox7.foo.com). You’ll need to make sure that your provider has given you a static public IP address of course.
Good Day Sir!
Just wanted to do a follow-up question, should i ask for VOIP provider to match the current IP set-up we did last time? instead of getting a domain?
I don’t understand this question, but perhaps someone else might know more about this and can answer your question.
Good Day!
Just wanted to ask if there are alternative ways that can activate my internet connection which somehow follow the guidelines on the actual set-up?
Thanks!
Good Day!
I have a follow-up question, are there ways to possibly put a X to this?
] Change Hostname via DHCP **No interface with dhcp**
it seems this is the only thing i am missing about the actual setup of the server.
would really appreciate your help
Thanks!
I’m not really sure what you’re trying to achieve here. I assume you’d like to change hostname via DHCP? Perhaps start a new thread (with descriptive title) asking specifically about your options with setting the hostname.
Noted that sir,
Apologies, will start a new thread for assistance
thank you
