The Internet connection freezes for a while

I replaced my computer with a new ssd disk (Samsung 980 PRO SSD 1 Tt M.2 -SSD with heat sink) and of course I reinstalled the Tumbleweed software.

After this, I’ve noticed that Firefox (and Chormium as well) sometimes freezes for several tens of seconds when FF tries to load down the page. The message that the page is not in HTTPS format also sometimes appears, even though the page is HTTPS (it is loaded normally when you press the F5 button).

I think this problem does not exist with a wi-fi connection, but only with a LAN connection.
I’ve tried searching the journalctl logs for an explanation of the problem, but I haven’t found anything.

Please, could someone help me find the reason for this in the journalctl logs or in general what causes this.

p.s. didn’t manage to get those </> settings right again, I’m sorry. But I don’t dare to try to fix it so that the whole text doesn’t get lost somewhere…

Difficult to read all that mixed output text, especially the text in Finnish.

You could also consider using SusePaste for cases where you have a lot of text to offer.

Another option for troubleshooting is to launch a windowed command line (example, use Konsole if using KDE Plasma) and start -firefox- there, and check the output.

Why not using the original r8169 driver from the kernel?

But when using r8169, you can not use r8125, r8101 and r8168 because they are blacklisting the r8169 driver.
So delete them.

I know I’m messing up, but the interface is difficult for me. I find it difficult to keep track of two windows, where one is the editing window and the other is the final result. The old system was 100% better.
But if you can’t figure it out from my attachments, I can’t do anything because I did my best again.

Of course, I will use r8169 if it works without stuttering.

Have you checked the system clock ?
can you provide translation for the text ?

Try also with a cli tool to access the page like wget or curl
wget https://www.is.fi/

Several internet pages take a long time to load (say 10 seconds) when the problem occurs. Most of the time the connection works just fine. The measured connection speed is on average around 70-100 Mbps (4G connection with Huawei modem).
When you get the warning below about an unprotected HTTP page, you can immediately reload it with the F5 key and the page will work correctly with HTTPS protection.

I’ll check the modem settings in case there’s something wrong there. However, I haven’t touched the settings for a long time.

have you tried with ping on that same page / just leave running again something online ?
Maybe you have packet loss in this case.

If so… eh, can be many things.

To exclude is your local network fault try to ping the modem for example (even as root with -f (flood) option) or another device in your house to cause massive amount of traffic).

Of course do not use -f mode against something outside your network!!!

I probably found the cause of the slowdown. I searched the internet to see if anyone else had similar problems. And found it.

Below is the Google translation of the message in question

I have a Huawei b525s modem.

Now, in the last week or so, the connection stops several times a day, and I haven't found any other way than restarting.

The modem log data often contains the following entry when the connection is lost:
Security Warning Detect UDP port scan attack, scan packet from 192.89.123.231

I have that exact modem and the same service provider. The address 192.89.123.231 is Telia’s DNS.
telia
huawei

I changed the DNS addresses in the modem to others.

Thanks for the good tip. :slightly_smiling_face:

o.O well good for you, I would never have tought the DNS performed some kind of revenge attack!
