Slowroll after zypper dup can't login - sddm can't load default library

Hi,

Today I performed a zypper dup for my slowroll installation. After reboot (not requested by installed packages), I can’t login any more from SDDM.

for me it fails as well, i don’t understand how this kind of update got past openQA…

Not all of the billions of possible combinations/possibilities/cases/circumstances/… can be covered by openQA. So in some circumstances, an error can slip through the tests.

Having the same problem. Is it fine if I just suspend the update till a new snapshot is released, hoping the issue will be fixed until then?

As there seems to be no bugreport yet, the maintainer needs to be notified about the issue.

I’m experiencing the same thing. I also can’t seem to log into KDE plasma specifically for some reason. journalctl shows “failed to write utmpx: no such file or directory”

The last zypper dup on my Slowroll installation fixed the issue. SDDM shows up properly and login is possible again.

Yes, the problem has been fixed. Thank you!
By the way, I was always able to log in with IceWM to get a graphical user interface.

Did you perform the upgrade and rebooted? That is not completely clear from the last comment.

And always show the initial command when prroviding terminal output.

Also for me still broken. Updated and rebooted, but cannot pass sddm on Wayland.
No error message shown on “Sugar Candy” theme.

I had the same problem. I solved it by doing the following:

Use snapper to boot into a read only snapshot before the update.
Do a “sudo snapper rollback” back to the state before the update (Make it writable)

Run sudo zypper dup again. This time it will pull many more packages (~700 vs ~450 during the first update.)
Reboot, everything was flawless for me.

I guess you could also simply do the second update in TTY like some people seem to have done above.

Hi. I had updated much of Qt+KDE, but not all of it and it seems that causes trouble. Another large round of remaining packages using the Qt private API is going to come in a few hours and that could help with the issues.

As for openQA, for Slowroll that is currently only testing the major monthly version updates, but not updates within the month. There are still open items related to that in Trello (also ‘installcheck’ would help)
