RDP into SuSE did work, the user/password in the RDP session on the remote side, be it on Windows or other platforms. Now, what I am getting is a Window that opens, “Connection Log”, that says “connecting to sesman on 127.0.0.1:3350 / sesman connect ok / sending login info to session manager, Please wait… / login failed for user bryan”
If I click OK get a new window that opens “Login to HaroldOrg-SuSE”, with three input area, Session, Username, password. Options for Session are Xvnc, Xorg, Vnc-any, neutrinordp-any.
None of the options work.
I don’t know what I did, or what changed. Really frustrated. HELP!
Have you checked your firewall?
By default, the RDP service (TCP:3389) is not enabled.
Yes, port 3389/tcp is open
GNOME is the desktop… was when RDP worked, is now as well.
OK, with the RDP credentials set to my SuSE login id, and its associated password the initial login works, however still get a fail
VNC started connecting
Waiting 2000 ms for VNC to start
VNC connecting to 127.0.0.1:6100
VNC error - problem connecting
some problem
Error connecting to user session
So, vnc is attempting to connect to localhost on port 6100
I verified that port 6100 is open in the firewall… where is vnc configured to listen for port 6100?
@bryanharold So your using remmina and the relevant remmina-plugin*
Yes, although I am not sure that is correct. I just used
flatpak install flathub org.remmina.Remmina
To make sure I had the latest.
To be clear, going from a client machine (Windows, iPad, etc) using RDP protocol INTO a SuSE host.
@bryanharold And on GNOME you have enabled RDP (Desktop Sharing and Remote Control) via System Settings → System → Remote Desktop and set a username and password (or checked the password)?
Yes. Checked and double checked.
@bryanharold Hi, so installed the WindowsApp on Windows 11 Pro and connected fine to a target system running Tumbleweed and GNOME 50…
What application are you using on iOS?
The mSoft Windows app, which supports RDP protocol to remote hosts
The mSoft Windows app, which supports RDP protocol to remote hosts. On the Mac, using a mSoft Windows app for Mac doing the same.
@bryanharold I’m on an old MacBook (openCore and Monteray) and use Royal TSX with an Ad Hoc Remote Desktop connection, this works as well…
On the host I’m connecting to I have the following installed;
i+ | remmina | package | 1.4.43-2.1 | x86_64 | Main Repository (OSS)
i | remmina-plugin-rdp | package | 1.4.43-2.1 | x86_64 | Main Repository (OSS)
i | remmina-plugin-secret | package | 1.4.43-2.1 | x86_64 | Main Repository (OSS)
i | remmina-plugin-vnc | package | 1.4.43-2.1 | x86_64 | Main Repository (OSS)
@bryanharold Ahh you just installed the flatpak client, you need the actual packages I listed installed.
I’m beginning to think that I futz’ed something up with the backend connection on the SuSE host. I can connect to the SuSE host, my ID and password is accepted… then I appear to get some VNC error. So the clients connect to port 3389, xrdp is listening to that port… and from there, perhaps, I have messed something up.
Did you try RDP instead of VNC…
I’m trying to get RDP to work… which makes me think I have messed up a XRDP config file that is redirecting the session to VNC. I guess I don’t understand what the “backend” of RDP coming into a SuSE host is…
@bryanharold there is nothing to do with respect to xrdp and any associated packages or configurations. All you need are the four remmina packages I indicated and enable on the desktop.
Unless I am confused (likely), Remmina is used as a RDP (and other) protocol CLIENT to another host… versus involved as a RDP Server. Remmina is working from the SuSE host to a couple of Windows11 boxes I have, using RDP. That’s great. My issue is using RDP from another host INTO the SuSE server. Do you have a working xrdp.ini and sesman.ini file and perhaps startwm.sh, all in /etc/xrdp that you could email (bryan@haroldorg.com) me?
