I upgraded a rarely used openSUSE Leap 15.4 x86-64 system to 15.5 last October (2024). It fails to boot into the default kernel, openSUSE Leap 15.5 with Linux 5.1.4.21-15050055.73-default. However, I can boot the system using the openSUSE Leap 15.5 with Linux 5.1.4.21-150400.24.100-default kernel. I haven’t applied any further updates as I’m afraid making the situation worse. I’m not sure how to debug the boot failure and need help figuring out how to proceed. Any hlep would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, welcome.
As others will say: you are trying to upgrade one very outdated version to the next outdated version. Given the fact that Leap 16.0 (!!!) is released today, I would suggest to do a clean install, after a proper backup of the data on the machine.
How do you define “fails to boot”? What happens when you try? What method did you use to “upgrade” from 15.4 to 15.5?
