Hi, I am having a problem printing since a few days.
When I print PDFs, Okular always prints to what apparently seems a smaller area then the format configured.
The symptoms look very similar to this old thread.
Printing from the command line (like suggested in the aforementioned thread) prints correctly.
Any hints, or anybody else seeing the problem?
Thank you @deano_ferrari for your help.
I do not know if this is still the case with modern KDE (provided it is/was actually a KDE problem, see the sole comment in that page), but in any case it would not affect me: I am in Italy and we use A4 here.
Unless the man finally convinced KDE developers to switch over to Letter and now the problem is reversed!!
Okular offers three options (under “PDF Options”/“Scale mode” in the print dialog) for how it will handle this issue: “Fit to printable area”; “Fit to full page”; and “None; print original size.” Only “Fit to printable area” is practically usable, because it is the default and changes are not retained from one print job to the next, so unless you’re willing to dig through the dialog and reset it on every single print job, you’re going to end up using “Fit to printable area” on non-exceptional jobs.
I assume that you have investigated the print dialogue box settings before printing the document(s) in question?
Hi @deano_ferrari , you assume correctly.
But even if I hadn’t, that would not make a difference.
I have always used the “Fit to printable area” setting and the results were correct for me. And I have not recently changed my printer or my printer driver.
What I see now, the difference in size is huge: it seems it is printing to an A5 page instead of A4. That cannot be justified by the need to account for the unprintable areas.
And printing with lpr and the option “-o fit-to-page” does not show the wrong behavior.
