There is no vote going on. This is all just speculation and suggestions.
from some research i have done the Sand Lizard or Lacerta agilis. a common easy going sand lizard found commonly in Germany and Sceloporus a genus of lizards mostly found in the u.s. but mostly referring to the Texas spiny lizard as i get vibes from tumbleweeds and the icons of such in opensuse. plus knowing that the company goal was to make opensuse one of the most easy linux distributions to obtain and use and with how eloquent and fluent the OS is to use i have combined some words and made some ideas based on this information.
like the community exclaims sometimes simple and easy for new and advanced users. lol
L referring to lacerta being some sand lizards in Germany
a referencing agalis being easy and quick to use or agile
S being from Sceloporus a genus of lizardsthat are easy to find
T well simply put from Texas and areas that have tumbleweeds and places to role slow

Well, slight issue, as the word āLastā means burden in German ![]()
maybe a different acronym like SaLt or stal
so like maybe crystalSaLt
or
clearSaLt
liquidSaLt
openSaLt
naturalSaLt
etcā¦
or SLat
āSalamandraā in my opinion is the best one so far. It is a long name for sure, but I like it.
More like outLaSt LOL
Iām surprised noone mentioned āTumbleapā or āTumbleleapā so far ![]()
Maybe openSLS as a reference to Softlanding Linux System ? It would be similar as it is now, not in conflict with any other linux project, and name would still be associated with old, reliable linux disto
The only issue it is already used in one reprap project, so Iām not sure itās ok to have the same name, even though is different thing
if the problem is with suse specifically (in the name that is), but rebranding in general is a hassle in terms of familiarity/brand recognition, then wouldnāt it be logical to drop suse, but keep the naming as similar as posible? like open something something? open easy peasy os or openEPOS. you can come up with fancy abbreviation and put pretty much anything under it from geeky to professional. take a pick. openNESS OS. but whatās NESS? who knowsā¦
I dont find the length problematic, and I agree that it is most appealing.
FIDO
Lizards are cold blooded and donāt care about people.
But dogs are warm blooded and good natured.
What about Fido for a name?
Itās a dogās name. It means I am faithful.
Also, it sounds like sudo.
im not big on fido personally and it reminds me of puppy linux too much
Fido will already be trademarked and has a large corporation behind it.
I canāt see that userās will ever get to vote on this. The name will have to be submitted for a worldwide search of registered trademarks, and be vetted that the selected name has no negative connotations in meaning in the majority of applicable languages. This is really a task for the board.
Iām fine with anything that lets us keep the Chameleon logo or something similar. A a reptile name should suffice. Here are a couple of ideas.
Gila
Tuatara
Anole
Iguana
Monitor
Komodo
Dragon
Cayman
Gator
Lizard
Etc.
Salamandra has been suggested too and that is an amphibian, not a lizardā¦
I was gonna mention this LOL
ODE, OpenDesktopEdition
OSE, OpenServerEdition
OME, OpenMicroEdtion
The distros are not being renamed. The rebrand relates to the project naming.
My two cent take.
SUSE originated in Germany and if not very familiar with the name you will pronounce the word SUSE wrong. For me to retain the chameleon logo why not use the German word for lizard like so:
Open Eidechse Leap
Open Eidechse Tumbleweed.
Note: I only use duck duck search for the German word for lizard and hopefully the one I got is the right one.
Why not Volix? Just go back to its origin?
