Mounting remote share > CPU soft lockup

I am accessing a share on a Windows PC, which is a remotely mounted Veracrypt volume (i.e. it is mounted on the Windows PC and then shared).

It is fine if I access it as a remote drive, but if I try to mount that share locally I get CPU softlockup and the system grinds to a halt needed a power cycle reboot.

Any ideas why this might be?

Can you share the fstab entry concerned, and perhaps as it is reported by the mount command as well?

What exactly “mount the share locally” means and how is it different from “accessing it as remote drive”?

Just an update - this problem no longer exists in Leap 15.5
