I am not a new Linux or OpenSuse user, I’ve been using OpenSuse single boot for about 7 years. OpenSuse on-and-off since about 2004.
I downloaded the Leap 16 ISO here and validated the download checksum about 3 weeks ago ( Intel or AMD 64-bit desktops, laptops, and servers (x86_64)):
My system:
Dedicated Linux, there’s no Windows or other OS present on the HDD.
8 core i7-7700 @ 4.2ghz
48gb, 2Tb HDD.
NVIDIA GTX 1080
I used RUFUS on my wife’s Win 10 machine to burn a standard ISO to my USB thumbdrive, a normal process I am very used to.
I spent many hours trying to get Leap 16 to install.
The USB boots to GRUB (or something that looks like it) and I choose to install.
A lot of text rolls down the screen, I try to follow it and I don’t see anything glaringly amiss until it comes to the screen shot.
"A start job is running for /dev/mapper/live-rw (“an incrementing counter”/50min)
I tried burning the ISO using RUFUS again, tried different USB ports, I read somewhere to use DD mode in RUFUS which also failed about the same place, I tried a different USB thumb drive.
I read to try editing the GRUB USB boot by adding nomodeset but I didn’t see any line beginning with “linux” or ending with “quiet” as suggested in so many help sources.
I tried adding nomodeset to various logical places in the konsole but nothing worked.
Many hours passed, I got frustrated and decided to take a new Linux OS tour.
I downloaded the new Fedora 42 ISO, burned it with RUFUS and it installed without a hitch.
I used that distribution for about a week then downloaded the latest UBUNTU, which also installed without any issue.
I used that for a couple days until I decided I didn’t like it, and installed Kbuntu the same way, no installation problems at all.
A couple days of trial passed and then I installed Mint, no problems at all.
I went around some of the more popular distribution worlds (so to speak) and I really wanted to try the Leap 16 but I know I’m going to have problems.
I really wanted Leap 16, and was going to wait until the next version of Leap is released hoping this install problem will be fixed (Maybe Leap 16.1) and I installed Fedora again.
I just finished the Fedora install, customized it the way I want and installed all my applications, also got all of those working as I need.
But now I am having second thoughts.
Maybe I can run this through the group here before I try installing Leap 16 again.
If it ends up I don’t want Fedora (Some of the application initialization lags a lot) then the only working Leap ISO I have is 15.6.
I’m not really knowledgeable how to print logs etc and my Konsole knowledge is little, so please have mercy.
Thanks in advance.
