Leap 16 --couple of issues with mouse action glitchy && not typing in message boxes?

@non_space that sounds very much like a keyboard contacts wearing out or dirty, I’ve seen a number of them that start failing with the likes of “P”. Can you connect another keyboard to the system and check if it duplicates?

Hmm . . . well, anything is possible . . . this keyboard is the replacement for the other one that I have . . . max 1.5 years old. See here I am able to type p p p p p p in the forum box . . . w/o issue. I am thinking this is a “google” thing now . . . I can blame them for my problems???

@non_space Hmmm, well for a start please don’t “p p” in the forum :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Really does sound like a Google issue, seems very strange…

Indeed. Hard to trace the “source” of the issue across a number of systems to what the commonality of them is . . . but it is looking like the G Voice Message box might be that crossing point??? Even there it isn’t consistent . . . .

So, back in Leap 16 today, nd just had a rather blatant occurrence of this mouse cursor/not typing event . . . again in Google Voice. Clicked in the box and started typing, did not type anything. Clicked again and was able to type, but at one point the caps key was held too long so a “THe xxxx” was typed. Clicked between the H & e and tried to delete the H . . . nothing moved. Tried several times to no avail. Tried to arrow around it back or forward or “down” no change . . . BUT while I was arrow keying I noticed that the XFCE desktop disk icons were highlighting with each tap on the arrow key . . . almost like the browser window was not open and I was just “tabbing” around on the desktop???

I did recall seeing that desktop disk icon stuff before, but wasn’t tracing it to the arrow key . . . .

The problem hasn’t happened for awhile, but the overlap of Leap 16 & Google Voice did seem again to revive it. What worked to fix the problem?? I highlighted the H and right-clicked to delete it, and then could type h.

Didn’t have any of the journalctrl stuff open as the issue seemed to have resolved, but, nope . . . still there.

I have been having trouble with open-up dialogue boxes on mate desktop for leap 16. For a test I logged in gnome de and didn’t notice the same problem.

Often the dialogue boxes openup but are empty and you can’t type in them. For example selecting quit in mate opens a dialogue where you decide to restart or shutdown, or other things. but the box is blank (transparent) and you can’t see the options. Also it will not close down from X on top.

@tckosvic

Thanks for the post . . . the quote above seems similar . . . the Leap 16 part is also similar . . . which is happening in XFCE . . . . My TW install is running MATE DE . . . no such problems that you mention . . . . What log in manager are you using?? Have you tried to switch that to another one??

Issue continues to be intermittently returning, yesterday was Leap 16 day and in attempting to send a couple of DMs in FB . . . the typing out of the message stopped after typing a couple of sentences, had to quit out of the message/chat and start it again to finish typing . . . had to do that twice to get one message sent.

Most frequent occurrence continues to be happening in Leap 16 . . . unfortunately didn’t have the journalctl command running . . . at the time. No “evidence” can be provided at this time. And, again, no problem typing in this thread . . . when the problem happens there usually is some “urgency” in the communication, like for “on demand” . . . it suddenly re-appears. Out.

In tumbleweed xfce this problem started last March and is still a problem here.
It happens in xfce x11 and xfce wayland with labwc. The xfce wayland with wayfire is not affected. I am using a logitech wireless usb mouse. I am just lucky enough that my mouse model is supported by solaar. I made solaar to auto start at login and leave it running and helps my mouse not become laggy. A temporary fix on my side.

OK, it does seem like there is commonality in the XFCE DE, in a couple of my installs. The most irritating problem is the “not typing” . . . but today I am in Manjaro XFCE/X11 and had a couple of incidents where Kensington wired mouse “went dead” . . . no laser tracking light, had to jiggle the plug where it plugs into wired usb keyboard to revive it.

How would I trouble shoot this “labwc vs solaar” issue if I decided to get crackin’ on the “glitchy mouse” problem???

Of more concern is the “failure to type in message boxes” that seems to come and go, mainly in Leap 16 is where the most frequent repetition of that problem is occurring, where not only typing is not happening, but blinking cursor function disappears, etc.

@non_space , sorry I can’t help you with that. “solaar” is for logitech mouse.
I assumed by keeping solaar running in the background the logitech mouse keeps always awake because it is continuesly communicating with the app (solaar). :smiley:
Like I said It is a temporary fix that is working here.
