Is KDE 4.8 ready now?

Is this repo - Index of /repositories/KDE:/Release:/48/openSUSE_12.1 stable enough now to be used with openSUSE 12.1?

My advice is No
Not just yet

why not caf?

not questioning your judgment in any way i am just curious

KDE-4.8 has not been released yet.
The repositories at …/ReleaseL/48/ are in preparation, and do not contain a working set.

The source for KDE-4.8rc2 has been released for testing. This is also known as KDE-4.7.97 and a useable build can be found in:
repositories/KDE:/Unstable:/SC/openSUSE_12.1/
Previously RC1 was there. I am using this for testing purposes only, it is not production ready.

If you want a usable bleeding-edge KDE system, I would wait until 4.8 is released, and expect …Release:/48 to contain a working system within about a week following release.

Thanks for posting.

I see that the repo referred to in the original post is made up of kde 4.7.98 - which I assume is a tweaked version of rc2.

just checked again and the packages are now 4.8.0

If you look carefully at the content (the clue is in the build numbers), you will see that those i586 packages are actually builds from 4.7.98 sources.

Wait until 4.8 is released by KDE if you want a working system.

Thanks for the clarification.

I will wait until kde 4.8 is in the main factory repo.

some of kde4.8 is now in the repo

the following requirements are not yet provided
kdebase4-session-4.8.0-63.1.noarch requires kdebase4-workspace >= 4.8.0
libkdeedu4-data-4.8.0-23.1.noarch requires libkeduvocdocument4 = 4.8.0
python-kdebase4-4.7.98-728.1.x86_64 requires python-kde4 = 4.7.98

due to the above the following packages were removed
akonadi-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64
kdepim4-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64
kdepim4-runtime-4.7.4-6.3.x86_64
kdepim4-wizards-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64
kgpg-4.7.4-5.8.x86_64
kmail-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64
kontact-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64
konversation-1.3.1-11.3.1.x86_64
korganizer-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64

apart from the above all is working very well
new is high cpu useage after kde desktop comes up, only lasts for about 50 seconds
start jingle has also gone

21-Jan-2012 with up/downgrades the list is shortened :-
(re: post #9)

akonadi-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64
kdepim4-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64
kdepim4-wizards-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64
kmail-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64
kontact-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64
korganizer-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64

All dependencies now seem to be resolved at least on this OS.

The only open item is kdepim4-wizards-4.7.4-6.9.x86_64 for which there seems to be no update as yet.

The upgrade proposal I received via YaST2 indicated that kdepim4-wizards is replaced by kde4-filesystem. Possibly its functionality was incorporated?

The switch IS now possible. I had to use some upstream branding, but that’s usual at this early stage.

I have dependency issues with release repo for 4.8. (tested trunk, unstable, gwdg repos).
Does any one know of stable repo with extra repo too for 4.8 with no issues.
Thanks.

I’m using R48 + R48extra I only had to use the kde login branding. It might confuse some, but you’re will able to see the path thru I’m sure

with sudo zypper update this is what i get:

KDE 4.8.0 is released. Is it stable ? if yes, how do i update to it ?
Am on Suse 12.1 X86_64.

Thanks.

How about zypper dup?

For me, still no luck…dependency hell…

Well, it seems i have got dependency issues too, but am not sure about that.

Am not sure what to do now. Puzzled !!

Same like me, i would suggest c in this case, i tried it and it just throw more and more upon choosing one.
