I have tested the following browsers Vivaldi (works), Chrome (works), Firefox (works) but Chromium does not work, except for the root user.
I have tested Chromium with two new users who do not have any settings, only the default settings. One is a local user and the other is a virtual box user. neither user works. I installed the latest Tumbleweed on virtual box just for this testing.

The page I am trying to sign in to is a Finnish tabloid https:www.is.fi. I think this bug affects other parts of the network as well.

The bug appeared about 1-2 weeks ago. This problem has not been encountered before. I have tried to isolate the bug in many ways, but I have not found anything other than that this problem does not occur with the root user.

I installed an older Chromium chromium-133.0.6943.126-1.1.x86_64. The problem is still valid.
I can’t think of anything else to try.

The vast majority of proper websites will report a specific (or even general) error number, and may include an associated textual message, if there is a problem.

Anyway, seems as if it’s a Chromium-specific issue, as other browsers work.

You might run the Discover app, then install the Flatpak version of Chromium and see how that works.

(sidenote: very strange oddity … seems as your post is “double-posted” )

I’m still trying out the Discover version.

I’m sure there are already 3 of my posts. I can’t use this software. It’s kind of Windows-like and I hate it. Too many colors, icons, etc., useless stuff when I’m just trying to write text. Of course, first I try to describe the problem, then translate it from Finnish to English and finally get additional information. Too many things to keep in mind - for a pensioner.

Other people have been recently posting about problems with Chrome based browsers, so the problem you have may not be just with your Chromium browser.

(yes, I understand about “too much to think about” - I am retired now four years  )

It will be interesting to see if the Flatpak version works. If it does, that may show an underlying problem somewhere in Tumbleweed.

Can you try changing the Chrome User-Agent and try again:

Flatpak version works ok.

Flatpak version works ok.

The error occurs when you try to sign in to is.fi. After that, all you have to do is click on the red ribbon “Sign in”. You don’t even have to try to enter any username/password. Chromium crashes at this point.

If you see the image below, there is no error. An error message will appear number 159.

This idiotic program is editing my text. You can try signing in by clicking here.

perkele

This is the EXACT error number that is being posted in other threads.

So, to me, this is NOT a problem with Chromium. The other thread that is current, is NOT related to your website, but to the Google Messages sync. Let me find it.

There … if you read in that thread, there are users with problems with “error 159” using Chrome. Personally, I do not have an issue with Chrome (but I am running Leap 15.6). You will see i’ve posted in that thread too.

I would say, use the Flatpak version until the problem is found in TW.

Thanks for all the replies and tips! I hope this problem will be solved, as always with openSUSE. I’ll wait for a fix.
