Chrome support, How stupid it is

Today i sent a question to Chrome support.

I begin my question with this two sentences :

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed
Chrome 135 stable

I made an error i typed “Tumble weed” instead of “Tumbleweed”
after a while i received a message saying :

Please be advised that a post you recently published on our “Google Chrome Community” has been removed based on one or more notices from internal content reviewers, as it did not comply with our “Irrelevant Content” policy.
We detected this problem automatically or as a result of one or more user reports. This measure is definitive and applied worldwide. Reviews are meant to be useful and reliable, and our rules in place aim to ensure a safe experience for all users.

I did not know that openSUSE is a great dealer with a world famous trademark “Tumble weed”.

lol power 1000

The report was for sure not flagged as invalid because of the spelling of the distribution. Btw, openSUSE does not ship or distribute Google Chrome. And there is no stable Chrome 135 yet. The latest stable version is 134.0.6998.35 which was released yesterday.

How is this topic related to openSUSE? This belongs into open chat.

Yes i made an error. this is “chrome 134 stable”.

this is my question :

openSUSE Tumble weed
Chrome stable 135

In my PC I get a Google messages web paired with my android google messages.

For two days, I can’t display the conversations in google messages web.

I get a “Aîe Aïe” message or an “error code 149”.

No problem with Firefox to access to my android google messages with Google messages web.

I tried to uninstall chrome then delete …/config/google-chrome/ then reinstall chrome.

Issue still there.

Finally, I installed with Flatpak chrome stable 133 then no problem.

Are you sure there is another reason it did not comply with Google “Irrelevant Content” policy" ?

Nobody here can answer that. You need to ask at the relevant places. This is not the Google support forum.

One hour ago, I resent my question but this time with “openSUSE”.
My post has not been deleted. Thus yes, it is the word “weed” the problem

Yes, I know this is not a chrome support forum.

But I want to share this funny thing.

How to put it in “Chat” ?

It is in Open Chat already. My mistake, sorry.

For us, running Google Messages for Web in Chrome stable (134.0.6998.35) pairs and works fine with our Android phones - use it almost daily (difference is we are on Leap 15.6).

For us, we would avoid the “re-install and delete .config”, if suddenly it doesn’t work. Could be a side-effect of a “zypper dup …” update.

One thing to try, if you haven’t already tried. Clear out Chrome’s cache sub-dir content (not config). It will not hurt anything - it will be rebuilt on the next run. The cache is only there to speed things up… however, the cache is known to become corrupt over time.

Location (?)
/home/your-user-name/.cache/google-chrome/Default/

Delete everything under “Default” (be sure Chrome isn’t running).
Re-start Chrome and test - good luck!

Thanks for your support

I deleted the /home/userid/.cache/google-chrome/ folder.

Instead of error 149, I get an error 159 !

Hmmmm. That is strange. Did a quick 'Net search for

google messages web error “159”

And there were some hits to threads in forums, but no solution. Even threads for forums for other Chrome-based browsers.

Quick question … Did you install Chrome:

  1. downloaded the RPM file and installed using rpm ?
  2. Added the dedicated google.com REPO using zypper?

We used Option 2 … that way, when we run “zypper up”, zypper will check if there’s a Chrome update, and if so, it’ll be downloaded and installed (in addition to any other software updates).

I used the repo https://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/x86_64

I use yast

Today there is an update of the Flatpak version of chrome to the stable 134.

There is no problem for G Messages web to connect to the android G Messages.

I assume the Flatpak package fits better to Tumbleweed than the Google rpm. Thanks to the packager.

Same issue with my Chrome error 159.

I use google-chrome-unstable from opi chrome. Tested also google-chrome-canary, same error.

Been using Chrome for about two years, but haven’t encountered such aw,snap error before. It appeared to me only recently of two or three days ago.

I run Tumbleweed.

I want to confirm that even in chromium the same error, the only difference that in chromium many webpages open, while in the unstable-chrome and canary-chrome 90% of web pages Error 159.

Tested all in pure re -recreated new profiles, Restarted browsers, PC, without extensions. I don’t know what is happening, Same issue to a few users on Brave.

I’am using Falkon browser, at least this is more accurate at the moment.

Another hint…

Running chrome without sandbox it works. No more 159 error.

google-chrome-canary --no-sandbox

But this is not the right or recommended option.

I was on Firefox a bit for test pages and there is no such issues.

Also Falkon browser stops loading 2sec once i log-in on my Yahoo email. And perhaps some other random sites stops with message:

Failed loading page

  • Something went wrong while loading this page.
  • Try reloading the page or closing some tabs to make more memory available.

This matter have to do with Chromium which is not working properly, but I’m not sure if it’s just a browser issue? or a system configuration?

The reports for this case are very few on the google search and the solutions even fewer. Except for this case which is been said to have solved.

So the solution is, either we go to Firefox, or use Chrome without sandbox.
Both are not optimal solutions for me, despite my respect for Firefox and privacy, but I have traded it for the better performance of Chrome and therefore I cannot stay there unless for a specific reason like this one.
Running without sandbox, no.

chrome-canary
chrome-unstable
Both those are the worst, almost every website error 159.

chromium
Better, 80% of websites loads normaly, but there are still many pages that stops with error 159

Falkon
95% of websites loads allright, there are very few that stops loading.

Firefox
100% working without a single stop.

I use Tumbleweed and system is always updated. No packages are put on hold.

This is my console output with/out sandbox.

$ google-chrome-canary --no-sandbox

It seems you have an underlying issue on your system if different kind of browsers are affected.
According your terminal output, you may have an SSL issue on your box. Something is meddling with your connection. (issues like this can be caused by so called “security suites”, “antivirus with SSL inspection”, VPN, …)

Chrome works flawlessly on all machines here.

Thanks for your reply hui, But SSL issue outputs only when i load chrome without sandbox the 2nd output doesn’t show ssl errors, i don’t have VPN nor antivirus on my system.

My opinion and wild guess … something “system related” that Chrome is relying on.
(… cough, Tumbleweed environment)

As I’ve stated previously, Chrome Stable works here no issue.
I also did a test with Brave Beta (my secondary browser) works with no issues.

Yea, the difference for me is that I’m running Leap 15.6, not TW.
I also tested Chrome and Brave on my Leap 16 Alpha … no issues.

“Console output” is insufficient as it does not provide enough low-level details.

If I were dealing with the issue, I’d use strace, which provides the proper output for low-level troubleshooting. ( or I’d run the Flatpak version and be on the road  )

I also believe is a system issue, or configuration. I haven’t moved or doing anything strange in recent years on tumbleweed, out of blue one night 3 days ago i was introduced to this concern.

I am glad you don’t have this matter, but a few in Brave forum have reported something similar, it can be coincidence or something in common with me.

We are completely on different here.

Indeed, console output didn’t bring enough outputs Didn’t know about strace, i used with this command.
strace -ff google-chrome-unstable https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ddkjiahejlhfcafbddmgiahcphecmpfh/reviews?utm_source=ext_app_menu 2>&1 | tee strace-output.txt
In just few seconds it go to 600+MiB of outputs, Mostly data there are beyond my ability to interpret them.

Attach (23.4 MB) have half output, i have to stop it to prevent more data and size.

Now I can’t use flatpaks after preparing the opi settings, maybe in any other installation I will keep in mind.

Many thanks for your reply.

opi and flatpaks are totally unrelated.
