Fwupd BIOS update fwupd blocking transaction updates AEON

Sorry to be a pest but Ive been using MicroOS Project AEON on an experimental notebook(for throwaway testing of distros for now). The machine is an older Dell Latitude 5400, i5-8365U, 32GB, 512GB nVME.

Scheduled Aeon updates ALWAYS fail w/fwupd failed, not connected to AC! This is my first problem, namely that the update should faailover to the transactional update and simply skip teh fwupd. Secondly ALL of this happens silently. I have yet to be notified of such failure, and have to root through the logs to find the relevant information.

I also tried while on AC and the update also failed, it’s been a while and I don’t recall the exact message but I believe it was the same, fwupd failed but possibly for some other reason, again not failing over to transactional update.

I have resorted to manually running transactional dup, o.w. this system would still be in early September!

My second problem is that willy nilly applying fw updates is generally more dangerous than forcing user interaction to do so. e.g. I generally do NOT want the shinest newest BIOS/etc. unless the sitution is dire and in which case would be corporate in which case there would be sacrificial machines to test against, but my personal machine? Don’t you dare! ASK me first, or worst case allow me a simple method to disable auto fwupd.

I have seen to many broken machines from ill advised firmware updates.

sorry for double post, but did not see edit option for original post.

In researching ways to disable fwupd, I did find a related Tumbleweed post from May:

apparently the edit time is very short here, just to add, here’s the log entry:

Dec 04 18:33:15 suseaeon systemd[1]: Update the system was skipped because of an unmet condition check (ConditionACPower=true).

Perhaps I misremember but checking system control,

fwupd-offline-update.service static -
fwupd-refresh.service static -
fwupd.service static -
fwupd-refresh.timer disabled disabled

…but software(?) IIRC was complaining about important update, and the only thing listed was the BIOS… although well maybe I just assumed that the ACPower was related to BIOS update as AC shouldn’t be a hard requirement for a software update!

@cutterjohn No, it won’t do the BIOS update unless the system has AC Power available, that’s for your safety, to ensure that the system will not power off…
