Hi all,
I am using opensuse 13.2 KDE.
I have installed vlc and kaffeine and I can watch movies there.
I have libdvdcss2 also.
But still I am not able to play dvd in either of the player.
e.g. I was trying to play an file shown follow,
rahul@linux-rahul:/windows/G> file VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB: MPEG sequence, v2, program multiplex
When I start dvd the pictures will be distorted and sound will be not clear.
Am I missing some lib here?
PS: I am able to play the file in windows using vlc in the same laptop.

The standard question with all multi-media poblems is: Did you switch to the Packman repository?
And from which repositoryis libdvdcss2 installed?
Yes, before I install libdvdcss2, I added packman.
see below
rahul@linux-rahul:~> zypper lr -d

I hope after adding this configuration, if I install the lib libdvdcss2 it will be from packman.

Well, adding a repo to your list does just that. It does not install any software, nor does it replace packages that are already installed from another repo. You have to do that. And I asked you if you did.
It is described in multple places. e.g. in the sticky threads at the top of the Multimedia subforum.
Seeing your list, you can switch to Packman with e.g.
zypper dup --from 1
But seeing your repo list, I have another question. Why is refreshing switched off for all your enabled repos?
I followed this step and installed the packages again
https://forums.opensuse.org/entry.php/160-openSUSE-13-2-Multimedia-Guide
Still it is not working.
The refreshing switched off because it takes lots of time to open Yast.

Please answer all questions or at least explain why you are not able/wanting to answer them.
hi,
I already did.
The refreshing switched off for all the repos, because it takes lots of time to open Yast. because Yast is refreshing the repo.

Repos will not be refreshed on starting YaST. They will be (when refreshing is switched on) when starting the Software Management or the Online Update module.
And refreshing is needed, else your software will not be informed about channges in the repos and thus not offer you any Patches/Updates.
are the following packages installed?
libdvdcss2
libdvdnav4
libdvdplay0
libdvdread4
check with cmd
rpm -q <package name as given above>
cheers
@hvv I will change it and enable the update.
@keellambert , libdvdplay0 is not installed.
rahul@linux-rahul:~> rpm -q libdvdnav4
libdvdnav4-5.0.3-29.1.i586
rahul@linux-rahul:~> rpm -q libdvdread4
libdvdread4-5.0.3-32.1.i586
rahul@linux-rahul:~> rpm -q libdvdplay0
package libdvdplay0 is not installed
rahul@linux-rahul:~>
shall I install it?
I have installed.
rahul@linux-rahul:~> rpm -q libdvdplay0
libdvdplay0-1.0.1-2.3.i586
rahul@linux-rahul:~>
still the dvd files are not playing
has it been checked that all vlc packages are from packman as already
suggested in https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/518134-DVD-playback-problem?p=2780361#post2780361
if they are, try playing the DVD via --open media —open disk
if still no joy, what is shown in --Tools, —Preferences, ----Simple Preferences, -----Input / Codecs -------Default optical device? /dev/sr0?
kaffeine? was found non-functional some time ago, ymmv
It works when use VLC to playing the DVD via --open media —open disk
thanks.
Till now I was doing open multiple files option.
Thank you all for the support.
There’s also “Open media” in the “File” menu in VLC’s GUI, or the “Media” tab in the “Open multiple files” dialog, that let you open a DVD…
This also supports DVD menus, which won’t work if you open the files directly.
Till now I was doing open multiple files option.
Should work as well, but probably doesn’t with encrypted DVDs, which need the use of libdvdcss to play them back.
