I DID run that command. The computer can’t copy/paste since I’m on the command line. I’m talking to this thread on another computer that is working, but I failed trying to mount a USB via command line on the bad computer. I had gotten the text output into a text file OK…
zypper lr -d >& output.txt
…but couldn’t mv/cp it to the USB drive I mounted via command line (on the bad computer).
zypper lr -d | susepaste
if susepaste isn’t installed, sudo zypper in susepaste
You can also expand any command like this:
<cammand> | susepaste, in this case zypper lr -d susepaste
The addition of | susepaste will paste the output to https://paste.opensuse.org and return a URL. Copy that URL and paste it here.
Now, back to the issue: Run
sudo zypper ref -f //this forces a refresh of all configured repos
sudo zypper -vvv dup //this runs the zypper command with highest verbosity
WARNING: today’s TW update was a full rebuild, do not get scared by > 2000 packages to be updated. This happens a couple of times a year, mostly caused by new default compiler versions etc.

I would remove all repos with 15.6 in the URL. And also Packman, you don’t have AMD graphics, and for the codecs you don’t need it. Use flatpaks for whatever does need codecs. And, definitely don’t use home:/ repos again, it’s asking for trouble.
So, kdenlive/ffmpeg/mplayer/simplescreenrecorder/etc., should all be flatpaks? Is flatpak more or less fully transparent to the user? I’ve only ever used repo installs…
Are Brave and SIgnal available from a standard repo now? So TW has also moved away from Packman? (it used to be very useful) I have Intel and discrete NVidia graphics (but NVidia has been getting a lot harder to use despite bumblebee).
I think the answer is TW is (almost always) the latest and best software.

That is not realy the case. There’s a number of things, like Cisco sponsoring us with the openh264 codecs, a lot of codecs no longer patented, so no problem to have in the distros.
Bumblebee is dead, but NVIDIA is something I do not have myself ( since ~15 years ), others might help you there.
Thanks - I checked FP out on wikipedia - I sort of get it. It seems better integrated than an emulator like virtualbox, and so, wonderful. (There has been a lot of software that came and went over the last 2 decades.) It sounds like I don’t need Packman.

Mode-switching is problematic on laptops with integrated Intel video plus discrete NVidia video. I think the NVidia installer “*.run” file used to work OOB, but the mode-switching is tricky since this is an old laptop.
What model nvidia GPU, I’m running an older Intel GT2 [HD Graphics 4000] with a GeForce GT 650M with nouveau and it runs fine…
Not with flatpaks, both are available.

OK, computer is running, almost… external monitor was detected until something triggered install of NVidia drivers and a couple other things…

EDIT: wow - flatpacks are amazing. Signal, at least, works well. Browsers may prove troublesome if they can’t use .config or other directories to retrieve databases (passwords, webpages, etc.) after switching to flatpak version.

There is flatseal for configuring that. Haven’t really used that, but I know it is one of the things it can do, Don’t have browser flatpaks (except Chrome, but that does the sync on login, so …) Some (like f.e. Ardour ) have their settings in-app.
Hi Malcom - any idea how to get TW to detect my external monitor? I think there’s a problematic package that got installed, because it was detecting it at one point then YaST installed a lot of NVidea drivers. I think I got them all uninstalled but it’s still not detecting it with right-click on screen (configure display).
