Accessing forums.o.o — anybody (besides me) problems on this?

Dear all,

I do experience some problems with accessing forums.o.o quite often. Not so with other websites I visit frequently. I am fine with almost all websites of my bookmarks — but explicitly not with forums.o.o .

In detail:

  • sometimes forums.o.o (without login — just watching!) just doesn’t show up
  • when I want to use it regularly (i.e. with login), login doesn’t work
  • I have to retry several times…
  • …or I do try the “normal” forums.o.o (without login) and then I am already logged-in (after I already tried the login before, unsuccessfully)

I do ask this to this public, because this is really conspicuous to me.

So, anybody else?

@C7NhtpnK Hi, the login system is separate from the forum, so for login issues, you would need to send an email to admin{at}opensuse{dot}org to create a Progress Ticket.

Likewise a lot of work is going on by the Heroes Team to kill off the seemingly constant DOS from AI crawlers! Maybe IPV4 vs IPV6 issues.

Have you changed your account email address recently, there is a bug related to this?

Your problem is very similar to this one.

To me this happens nearly every time when I try to login to the forum:

  1. I open the forums page,
  2. press the login button,
  3. get redirected to the login page,
  4. enter (successful) my credentials,
  5. then the login system fails to redirect me to the forum although the ID-cookie is created.

So I just open the forums page a second time, press login and - without being send to the login page again - I’m logged in.

Oh my dear! WTF?!

What do you mean by this? I don’t experience any other major issues…

No, not really.

Well, yes!

And behind your Recent Logins giving me Internal server error and 500 on screen you can find Login in dieses Forum: manchmal Fehler 500! which was opened by me once ago…

Still experiencing problems since then.

Yes, this is what I meant by:

@hendersj any thoughts on this issue.

@C7NhtpnK Yes, the openSUSE Build Service, Wiki and other infrastructure are getting hit, it’s like playing wack-a-mole… If your internet facing router is running IPV6 as opposed to IPV4

There’s a long-standing issue with the authentication system where it redirects to the wrong place (usually code.o.o, but not always). We’ve tried to track it down, but it’s been a very difficult issue to reproduce, and in the few instances we have reproduced it, it’s been difficult to identify a root cause for the issue. It acts like a misconfiguration for the OIDC callback, but it isn’t actually misconfigured.

You can see if you’re going to have a login issue by looking at the login page and seeing if it says " discourse.opensuse.org wants to use your openSUSE Account credentials" - if it does, it’ll work. If it says anything else other than discourse.opensuse.org, then it will fail. (Note that the string is just a static string, not actually the hostname for the forums, and is not related to the issue).

In general, accessing another service (like bugzilla) gets the authentication token, and allows the login to proceed correctly.

As I recall, there’s a plan to eventually move off of the IdP that’s currently in use, and that will very likely resolve the issue. But I don’t know the timetable for that move.
