Zypper speed problem

I have laptop at home which is half of power as work machine… Both runing openSUSE 11.2

However, “zypper in PACKAGE_NAME” on my laptop is almost instantanious while at powerful work machine is taking forever… (let’s say 3 minutes to start installing or notifying that package does not exist)

Anyone knows how to fix it?
(I think that looping through repo’s indexes is a problem)

thanks

There have been some comments about zypper’s association with Aria and p2p. Some users feel ISP management of such or in some cases perhaps implementations in place to restrict such in places like Universities.

is the work machine connected through the work provided network
connection…which is different from the one you have at home?

could it be you home ISP provides faster service (or faster DNS
service at least)?

could it be that the work network has its DNS setup incorrectly (it
sounds like maybe it is waiting for one DNS server to ‘time out’)

or, does it go through a proxy…or, talk to the work’s network
admin…maybe s/he can help you…

or, maybe you need to select a close mirror for zypper to use at work,
see: http://mirrors.opensuse.org/ then if it is still slow find the IP
for the mirror and use that instead of the name (know how to do that?
just ping the name and it will return the IP)

Conditions are the same.
However, totally unprovoked, zypper started to work almost normally.

Humm…
