The latest OpenBSD was recently released and one big change was fixes for nearly all year 2038 time bugs. My understanding was that this was never an issue with Linux; am I correct?
It has also been an issue with Linux; it too will need a fix. One option is to switch to 64-bit only.
At my age: If it is an issue for me, then I will have something to celebrate! lol!
I won’t likely have to worry about it either!

Yes, you do. Same as you worry about pollution, work availability,
violence in the streets, wars… you do not want those problems handed
down to your offspring. You’d like to have that solved now

Better solution: Don’t have offspring.

Postponed problem=solved problem.
Let the (few) young Westerners deal with it, them pansies.

Yes, that’s what I say to others. They answer that they do, and that
they will er… batter my head with something till I’m nice to theirs

Which version(s) of openSUSE will be active in 2038? openSUSE 33.2?
Well one can be linux will get a patch for this, but why worry about an issue that is going to happen in 24 years from now?

Oh, it is a fixed schedule, so you could calculate it.
But there are exceptions, like 13.2 (which will be delayed some months),
or the numbering system or schedule could be changed again.

kids in elementary school today will be feverishly working on the looming “year 2038” bug in 2034!
Unlikely.
Everyone knows that the solution is to go to 64-bit time. I expect you will see that in place by 2030 or earlier.
true - but it is amazing - it seems like the Y2K bug was just yesterday!
Hmmm… that turned out to be, on the whole, rather a damp squib, the world didn’t come to an end.
Passing thought for the crystal ball gazers… what’s the specification of a typical PC going to be in 2038?

They said the same thing about COBOL back in the 60’s when it became
apparent that Y2K was going to pose a problem.
It’s important to plan ahead for stuff like this. That’s why.

That sort of remark gets me really angry. It was a ‘damp squib’ as you
call it because we fixed all the programs before the bug became active!
We put a lot of hard work into preparing for this and because we were
almost completely successful we get ridiculed instead of thanked.
