All I wanted to do was download vlc and ivtv drivers. That amounts to about 2mb. Why does it want to download 700mb worth of stuff? Basically everything.
Some may be dependency related and others just recommended by default for enhancement.
You could try downloading a specific .rpm manually, then installing it manually with
rpm -ihv packagename
It should tell you if there are any specific dependencies - then just try working thru this.
Otherwise you need to use Yast and de-select what you don’t want under the ‘Installation Summary’ filter tab.
Is this going to happen every time I want to install something? Seems a bit over the top.
Possibly.
Are you on a limited internet or dial up?
No, I’m not. But I feel I should not have to download countless packages just for a small application. Is this the opensuse way of doing things? I mean, it wanted to update every app on the computer. I have not seen this behavior on any other distro.
A appreciate your responses though.
You see, I am not looking to use opensuse for myself, but rather for my customers. I need to know how everything works, and why. I will try the gnome version to see if there is any difference. Thanks for your time.
