Xvid encoding very slow

My Xvid encoding is running very slow. I only get about 15fps in FFmpeg and/or avidemux in SUSE64, but get about 50fps in WinXP32 (same machine dual boot).

I’ve tried messing with the xvid threading options in avidemux, but it doesn’t seem to help much.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Here’s what I’m running:
11.1 x64 on an AMD X2
Avidemux - 2.4.4
ffmpeg - 0.4.9.17161
xvid - 1.2.1
