XPS Laptop - how to install properly the onboard nvidia graph card?

Can somebody walk me safely through that process? I’m afraid to sit in front of a black screen … . Yes, I read some help/youtube/reddit-stuff/manuals but I’m not sure if I fully grasp everything.

I have a XPS Dell Laptop with 2 graph cards and I would like to use my GeForce RTX 4060. I identified and loaded the driver (595.99.02 …) and the nvidia repository is added (myrlyn). How to I switch now to this graph card?

Hi henry_1

To start with please open a terminal and post the output of the following ocmmands
inxi -Gaz
zypper se -si nvidia

Which desktop are you using? Both KDE Plasma and GNOME can launch applications using the discrete NVIDIA GPU, and switcherooctl can also be used to launch applications on a specific GPU.

great. here the two commands

I’m using KDE only

Mod edit to add code tags.

Your setup will only use the Nvidia GPU for Prime Render Offload, Class 302 is “3D” only. By default it’s being used (See the Vulkan output), else use switcherooctl for it to be used, AFAIK there is a Plasma applet for launching(?).

You should not get a black screen on the hardware as there is no output to any screens, only the driver won’t be working…
