Xense Xonar Support

I just got Asus Xense Xonar card.

Which has AV100 chipset.

I have checked Alsa that its tagged as “possible”, Is there any way that i can make it work ?

Can you open YaST==>Sound==>Other==> Play Test Sound ?
This will ensure that hardware is compatible

No, that test is not conclusive at all.

Read this guide thoroughly first:
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Audio_troubleshooting#STEP-1:_How_to_test_your_sound

Run the diagnostic scripts as shown in the guide, and report back with the URL to the output of the diagnostic script.

!!PCI Soundcards installed in the system – this is showing 3 items

Okay, you have multiple sound cards present

Manual configuration is needed for multiple sound cards AFAIU. (I have no experience with this situation, so can only point you at the info.)

MultipleCards - ALSA wiki

This might give you a bit of an idea about configuration too:

Your Oxygen HD Audio device should be supported by the ‘snd-oxygen’ driver from what I’ve gleamed online.

Any more Help people[/QUOTE]

You state “any way to make it work” ? Apologies, but I do not know what that means as it is very general. What is the problem ? No sound in what applications ? No recording in what applications ?

I note http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=9000ead38650a0b40c2a932a89426d5e9ec1cbb5 indicates pulse audio is installed. Did you try installing ‘pavucontrol’ and then follow some of the blog suggestions here: https://forums.opensuse.org/blogs/oldcpu/pulseaudio-basics-opensuse-pavucontrol-96/

You may wish to look at this thread:
https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/multimedia/481311-recording-levels-too-low.html where user noted:

IMHO your best bet to get this to work is for someone else with same xonar hardware to pitch in with advice. My experience in reading sound threads on this (and other) GNU/Linux forums for the past 7-years is xonar is tricky to get functioning … and note I do not own this hardware.

If you search our forum for ‘xonar’ you will find many users looking for help with the ‘xonar’. Here is one where the user was successful in configuring the card in YaST hardware/sound: https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/multimedia/480426-asus-xonar-ds-card-not-detected-configurable.html

I have a Xonar. And intergrated audio. The Xonar only works properly of I set it to be the default sound card in Yast, or disable the integrated audio. Next, I have to set the proper order in KDE’s multimedia settings.

Ah, so you do have to disable the integrated audio hardware. The OP seemed to be trying to use multiple sounds cards. Thanks for responding Knurpht.

I contacted ASUS, they are not concerned with the support of their sound cards under Linux and MacOS (the contact tell me “see with de Linux community”, and this card is not supported by ALSA… (Look the source code, nothing for Xonar Xense…)

Someone contacted the developer ALSA card support ASUS.
Last two years he has not had time to integrate this card in ALSA… when he said that it should not be difficult. (Probably because the AV100 chipset is already supported by ALSA)

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=120392

You can contact the team ALSA too, Takashi Iwai work for Novell.inc

PS : sorry for my english

In source code i have found (xonar_pcm179x.c) :

Whe are many people (Ubuntu Community, ArchLinux, Suse, Fedora…) want to have support of this card on Linux… Look on google… :frowning:
Please try to contact Alsa Team, my english is too bad for this…

Please don’t post anyone’s email id on the net as spam bots will pick them up start sending mails to that id. You may use some sort of convention like the one i did above to share if you really need it .

Sorry for that :-/

It is possible to edit a previous message ?

I’ve edited it for you.

Please see the FAQ for the forums for information about the available edit window.

Jim

Thanks.

About the support of Xonar Xense, nothing new ? :frowning:

I tried to contact dev of Alsa, but nobody answers me.:\

UP, someone could help us please ?! :’(

I recommend, if one does not find a solution on an openSUSE forum thread, and even IF one finds a solution, to give serious consideration to raising a bug report.

One can raise a bug report following the guidance here: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Submitting_bug_reports … one can use their openSUSE forum username and password to log on to bugzilla.

The advantages of raising a bug report on one’s audio (if it does not function appropriately) is:

  • it brings the problem to the attention of the SuSE-GmbH packager for the sound driver and sound setup in the openSUSE distribution, where this packager also happens to be an alsa sound driver developer.
  • if the SuSE-GmbH packager for the sound driver comes up with a solution, they then will typically forward the patch upstream, such that all GNU/Linux distribution benefit and not just openSUSE
  • thie SuSE-GmbH packager for the sound driver has significantly greater knowledge and provide significantly greater support than any one nominally on this forum.

Good luck and best wishes.

This is not an openSUSE specific problem - just search around and you’ll see other distro threads on the topic eg

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=120392

Have you tried emailing Clemens Ladisch (the driver developer)? His email address appears in the source code that was attached by you a couple of posts back.
