I’m using opensuse on an hp workstation quad-core intel xeon 5160.
I would like to have a virtual Windows OS
I tried to install xen but it tells me that my processors don’t support full virtualization. I checked and it seems that intel xeon has the virtualization feature…
I tried then to install vmware player, I downloaded the last version from the web site, installed with rpm -i but I cannot see any executable or link to this application.
Now I’m trying also with VirtualBox.
What is the best solution? I don’t need special things, just a stable virtual windows to run some programs that cannot run on linux…
I have a similar question - just for kicks I’m trying to configure a PC that will act as our home server using and using three VMs to perform the various tasks. As I’m just playing I want to stick with free software, for now.
Installing Xen from the 11.1 DVD, creating the VMs and getting them running all worked fine but no network connection with either full or paravirtualized VMs. The problem with Xen seems to be total lack of documentation or user base for problem solving. It’s time to try VMWare Player as there seem to be an active community behind it and plenty have it working. I’m sure Xen works too, I just can’t figure out how.
Can anyone offer helpful links for Xen problem solving, words of advice for a newbie to VMs, and general guidance?
