XBMC

I am a new user and I have a problem. XBMC does not open. says:

XBMC needs hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering. Install an Appropriate graphics drive.

And I have onboard graphics. Intel i5-2500k

Works for me with xbmc-12.1-1.1.x86_64 and HD3000 on an i3 and openSUSE
12.3, which version of xbmc and openSUSE do you use?

PC: oS 12.3 x86_64 | i7-2600@3.40GHz | 16GB | KDE 4.10.0 | GTX 650 Ti
ThinkPad E320: oS 12.3 x86_64 | i3@2.30GHz | 8GB | KDE 4.10.0 | HD 3000
HannsBook: oS 12.3 x86_64 | SU4100@1.3GHz | 2GB | KDE 4.10.0 | GMA4500

OpenSuse is 12.3 64 Bits and xbmc 12.1.

What do the 3 commands

/sbin/lspci -nnk | grep VGA -A 2
glxinfo | grep -i opengl
glxinfo | grep -i direct

show when you run them in a terminal?
If you have no glxinfo you need to install the package Mesa-demo-x.

EDIT:
Resolved alone. Do not know what it was, but thanks.

Hi I am having the same problem , XMBC ( Kodi now ) when I do a fresh install for Opensuse it works fine , then when I update my Nvidia drive to the appropriate Nvidia driver from Nvidia repo. after reboot my HP labtop ( AMD Turion X2 ) I found Kodi doesn`t start and pop up an error message

" xbmc needs hardware accelerated opengl rendering. install an appropriate graphics driver in Opensuse"

any one have an idia how to come over this panic problem ?

Hello,

When posting, unless there is special reason to do so, no special formatting is required.
Also, since the OP of this very old thread resolved his issue, in general it’s better practice to open a new thread of your own.

Just a thought…
If you have proprietary nVidia drivers installed, I assume you also installed the nVidia applet as well?
Use it to inspect your card configuration, verify that hardware acceleration is enabled.
