When I go to Computer -> Shutdown -> Shutdown, openSUSE won’t actually shutdown. It just logs me off and takes me to the login screen, where I then have to go to the “Menu” at the bottom and go to Shutdown -> Shutdown again, to actually make openSUSE shutdown my computer. Any idea why it won’t just shutdown the first time?
This is the normal functionality, as I recall. A regular average user
(non-root) shouldn’t be able to power off a machine just because they
want to and so you are taken to a screen where you put in the root
password or where shutdown is allowed. Try with ‘root’ to see if it’s
any different, but otherwise you can go to Yast: Security: Local
Security and allow shutdown via the GUI and this will probably work for you.
Good luck.
