I have just read that tumbleweed defaults to plasma 5 now, the announcement (https://news.opensuse.org/2015/05/16/tumbleweed-moves-to-plasma-5-3-and-a-new-release-of-kde-applications/) also said that the KDE applications patterns got replaced and its users will get migrated to plasma 5.
But what about the Plasma 5 application pattern? Will it stay? should i manually switch to the updated KDE pattern or does this work automatically ?
I mean in the long run the plasma 5 pattern will be removed i thing because it should be identical to KDE pattern now, right?
If you are already using Plasma 5, and you update, then it should be fine.
For a new install, if you select “KDE Desktop” on the desktop selection page, then both the KDE desktop pattern and the Plasma 5 pattern are selected. I didn’t check whether they are identical. After install, if I select “KDE Plasma desktop” at the SDDM login window, I get Plasma 5. There’s also an entry for Plasma 5, which gives me Plasma 5.
Yes, there seems to be some redundancy at present.
Thats why i asked, it seemed to me the package manager keeps track of which pattern i used, i just want to prevent any conflicts when someday the plasma 5 pattern gets removed, but some internal storage still points to the, then missing, pattern.
