Hello! I have n’t ever used a wireless mouse. Do you know if all the wireless mice are compatible with linux, which means that the wireless usb sensor provides to the linux kernel normal inputs.
They just work
I have a A logitch V220
Yeah, they look like normal USB mice to whatever OS you are running. Have a lot of fun.
Yes, there are just USB mice.
Make sure that you get a one with good battery life. I have seen some of them require a new set of cells every week or month. Also, since there is no battery power level indicator, it may just fail when the battery is drained. It could happen in the middle of some important presentation or client meeting. So, make sure that you always have backup cells in your bag.
Also, stick with the known brands like M$ or Logitech. Some of the older no-name brands give problems.
I’m a strong convert to wireless USB optical mice, and that is what I use now on both my desktop and laptop. I also use a logitech wireless. I keep spare rechargeable batteries handy by my desktop and also in my laptop bag.
Thanks for the help guys! Just one more question. If I buy a good one mice as you told me like microsoft or logitech brand
How much money should I expect they will cost?
What is the maximum distance that support? I want something that works from 3-5 meters. (p.s perhaps you should try check your own wireless mouse )
Thanks a lot.
My Logitech wireless mice do NOT work from 3 to 5 meters. I typically buy the cheapest wireless Logitech offer.
One thing I found with my wireless mouse/keyboard was that the USB drivers weren’t loaded when I wanted to select the different boot options (multiple OS’s) so I had to go back to the PS2 type. There may be a way to get them loaded before that prompt but I’m way too new to Linux to know how to do that.

Its important when reporting something does not work to try hard not to generalize. The more specific one can be the better. What manufacturer of the wireless mouse/keyboard? Is it combined mouse/keyboard or a separate one?
Did you ask for help and the help did not work?
For example, in BIOS did you change USB to “legacy mode” ?
I have a USB keyboard on one PC (via KVM switch) that does not work in GRUB, but as soon soon as I boot to X it works. So characteristics of anomalies can vary and one needs to be very specific.
My experience is that Logitech wireless mice work well. But for the inexpensive ones I purchase there is NO three to five meter range. Part of the reason for that may be the USB mouse wireless transmitter is a small USB stick on the back of the KVM and hence not in an ideal wireless transmission location.
Have a look at some of the auction sites for an older model.
The only type that will work from a longer distance are bluetooth mice.
You could try putting the dongle on a longer usb cable to get the receiver closer to the mouse.

Done. My MS Sidewinder X8 does.

In what way is stevericketts guilty of generalization? He seems merely to have stated a specific observation about his own equipment. If I were to assert that my computer is green, that is not a generalization; it says nothing about your computer or anyone else’s.
And why should he ask for your help, or anyone else’s? He has satisfactorily solved his problem by reverting to a PS/2 mouse, a solution with which, presumably, he is perfectly content. There was no need for him to be any more specific.
Yeah, sorry. I was just trying to be helpful to the first poster by relating what I had run into and giving him something else to consider. It was no problem for me to use a PS2 KVM switch as legacy USB support in BIOS didn’t help.

Any of you know if the wireless mouse/keyboard sets that have ps2 connectors are supported by kvm switches?
I have an older hp/compaq 8 port kvm.
There are ps2 to USB converters for mice.
I ‘inherited’ an M$ wireless desktop (not my choice the multimedia). Got into the kvm and conneted it all up and everything works fine.
Thanks
