It seems I’m having some continuous WINE problems.
WINE works initially after install. (Both the listed “stable” version & .29). But after a huge update WINE refuses to operate correctly.
As background sax2 refuses to accept the correct resolution of my monitor (22” Widescreen) with the BFG 9800GTX+ vid card. I initially installed the Opensuse 1-click NVIDIA drivers, but I end up stuck in run level 3 regardless what I do. (So far short of fighting with the ‘X’ config file.) Using the “.run” package from NVIDIA works well after some manual adjustments. (Initially it still tries to force 1280x1024.)
What WINE does after the updates is two-fold: it starts giving me framebuffer errors and it says it’s missing various “.so’] files out of the /usr/wine/lib/ (I think) directory. (I checked and the files are there.) As an aside, Sax2 is one of the items updated.
A secondary question is I tried different WINE versions to see if re-installing would work, but YAST goes from WINE to WINE-Snaphot – if I remove one, YAST forcefully installs the other.
I haven’t tried just installing, updating, and then trying 1-click/”.run” NVIDIA, followed by WINE, but even if that works it doesn’t answer the underlying problem.
Other than the hassle of a re-install itself, I’m open to/probably going to do it anyways, as my /home is on another disk. (So other than ragging the “/” disk a bit, no harm done.
As a last question, trying different NVIDIA drivers gives me some strange GRUB options: “ec” & trace. Any background on that?
Any help is appreciated.
