Will X11 be supported for the near future

hello everyone!
i would like to ask if Tumbleweed would continue supporting X11 for the foreseeable future or are there any plans to drop support for X11?

and if support for X11 were to be dropped, in that case would the repositories also stop offering packages such as the i3 window manager which run on X11

Thanks!

Looking in the future is always difficult, my guess is at least 3 years from now.

Instead of worrying I would see what still is missing but the i3 window manager is not the problem:

You might browse through this thread for some opinions (though not a direct question about TW):

from what i gather from the discussion thread posted by @myswtest the consensus is X11 will get the axe and it could be as soon as Leap 16 release. If Leap drops X11 why would Tumbleweed still maintain it.

yes sway is an alternative, thanks @marel i will start figuring out if i can integrate sway and i3 together.

No, you can not integrate sway and i3 together. i3 is for X11, sway is for Wayland.

oh ok, thanks for letting me know

just installed sway and sway opensuse branding, and wow! i am literally blown away by how ready it is out of the box, nothing needs to be done, it is ready to go, all the keys are mapped, sound, brightness, bluetooth, nm-applet, battery, it is all done with amazing customization. looks really great!

Thank you, I truly appreciate all those who’ve put in the effort to make this so good out of the box.
