Where has the screensaver gone?

Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20250205
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.10.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.13.1-1-default (64-bit)

I’ve done a fresh install on a new PC for the first time in many years. My previous main PC is a much updated Tumbleweed going back seven years or more.

So now I have no residual software from earlier releases.

I’ve noticed a few things have disappeared, to my slight annoyance but one of them is the screensaver. What?

A slide show screen saver has been part of my life since Windows 3.1 and I’m not about to give it up now.

How can I get this function back, please?

Thanks.

Screensavers are a relict from several decades ago (it is an energy waste nowadays…) and the integration in KDE Plasma got also removed long time ago. You need to install additional apps to get this ancient stuff. Simply search YaST Software for screensaver…

I don’t use this feature, but screen locking is still available natively with Plasma 6…

From here the Xscreensaver is installed by default in OpenSuse, jetzt add xscreensaver to autostart and configure with xscreensaver-settings.
There are addtitional packages to install from yast-software for more screensavers.
