Also x11vnc is no longer in any repo,
tigervnc-x11vnc does not do what x11vnc did - this breaks ever remote connection I do over ssh. There is no way to remotely display what the remote user sees.
I am being forced to use less friendly ways to support remote users.
Also the Mozilla repo is available for Leap 16 but does not provide the Firefox package yet. It seems like Firefox RR (144) fails to build for Leap 16 in the Mozilla repo/project.
Another possibility is the Mozilla factory package (143 atm) which builds fine.
Is it just me who thinks so - or isn’t it really quite useless to propose a major upgrade for leap requiring us to abandon both firefox and packman (and for my part also signal)?
I thought these upgrades were meant to run rather user-friendly, even for the “average person”, but here it looks to me as if the “nerd image” of linux is showing its ugly face again.
openSUSE is known to be limited to packages with other licences or patents.
Mozilla Firefox is shipped by Leap OSS Repo, but openSUSE Leap offers only the ESR Version of Firefox. That means the Firefox is supported with Updates from Mozilla.
The Packman Repo is not Part of openSUSE, it is offered by some people to get some packages with other licence to Leap.
But it is not necessary to get Leap working.
The Mozilla Repo is a factory Repo. If you want MozillaFirefox in the newest working Version, you can also download it in your /home and execute it there. So no need for a factory Repo.
If you mean mozilla project, it has Leap 16.0 repository, but right now building of firefox packages is disabled for all repositories (16.0, 15.6, Tumbleweed) which suggests some general issues unrelated to the Leap 16.0.
If you have constructive ideas how the upgrade process can verify an arbitrary repository added by the end user, by all means, suggest it in the right place.
Upgrade process defaults to disabling any non-standard repository. How can upgrade process be responsible for anything user does after upgrade has completed?
What made you think this topic is about upgrade to start with? As usual with OP, there are some messages without any explanation.
None of my Leap installations has repositories from the mozilla project, still firefox gets installed and updated. What makes you think mozilla project is mandatory for every openSUSE installation and it is imposisble to update firefox without it?
