What is the approved (GUI) method of installed codecs on TW?

I swear it used to be easier - just a one-click installer link.

I tried this one: https://opensuse-guide.org/codecs.php

And it worked to an extent - but it failed to install two fairly majors chunks of the codec’y architecture on linux (i forget which two exactly).
I also note that there are some suggestions of using packman repos as done in days of old - which in days of old i might have done in Yast.

But I questions that these days as people seem to suggest that Yast is no longer a ‘good’ way to install software in TW.

So, tell me; is there a safe, standard, and straight-forward way to install the necessary codecs via the GUI?

This is a guide for openSUSE Leap 15.1! So be careful what this One-click-install in chapter 13.1 will give you. It might not fit your Tumbleweed system.

If you want to use chapter 13.2 with openSUSE Tumbleweed you have to use the Tumbleweed repositories e.g.

http://packman.inode.at/suse/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/ instead of http://packman.inode.at/suse/openSUSE_Leap_15.1/

Without the details …

As far as i know you can still use YaST with openSUSE Tumbleweed to add/remove packages or repositories only to update a Tumbleweed system you are adviced to do

# zypper dup

Thank you. will give it a shot.

when i clicked on the one-click in the 15.0 guide yast did tell me it was hooking up to a TW repo.
this one i think:
am i fine to stick with this repo and run the install commands you list above?

That’s the correct repo.

You can switch packages to that repo with:

zypper dup --allow-vendor-change --from "packman-repo"

except change “packman-repo” to the name or alias you are using for that repo.

Correct, but he asked for a GUI method. And that, using YaST > Software > Software Management > Repository View > Select Packman > do the Switch to … right upper wy yis described in about every explanation on these forums in the sticky threads of Multi-Media.
