VMWare using Unity Mode with Twinview using nvida drivers.

I am posting this to see if anyone else has had an issue with Vmware Workstation 7.1 using unity mode with a Linux Host. The issue I am having is when I try to move a window from my virtual machine in unity mode the screen crashes and then disappears. Everything seems to work while not in unity mode. I have tried various thing like disabling 3d mode in VMware, disabling various KDE effects. Nothing seems to help. I only have these problems with a dual monitor setup, if I switch to a single monitor everything works just fine.

Here is my system setup:
Linux x86_64
Opensuse 11.3
Kde 4.4.4
Nvidia Quadro FX 1700
Nvidia driver 260.19.29
Intel Xeon CPU W3520 2.67Gz, 4 cores.
4 GB of ram

Any help would be appreciated.

I don’t have such a problem with unity mode / Twinview, but I’m running SLED 11 SP1 :

  • Nvidia FX 700M,
  • NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.12
  • Gnome

I had a lot of problems with compiz, especially under 260.19.29. (In fact I gave up on KDE – used it for 8 years! – under the mistaken belief that it was becoming unreliable.) My only suggestion is to try disabling compiz (desktop effects).
