VMware 7.1.4 does not run under opensuse 11.4 64bit

I get the following error when I try to run vmware under opensuse 11.4 64bit:

process 8923: Attempt to remove filter function 0x7fe2fd7a2980 user data 0x8a6c40, but no such filter has been added
D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace

The process, filter function and user data values change each time but the error happens every time.

I have followed the process suggested by Djarum123 in this thread:

http://forums.opensuse.org/forums/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/457874-how-install-vmware-workstation-7-1-4-build-385536-opensuse-11-4-a.html

but to no avail. The error remains the same.

The VMware version is: VMware-Workstation-Full-7.1.4-385536.x86_64

Here is the machine info:

> uname -a
Linux lysander 2.6.37.6-0.5-default #1 SMP 2011-04-25 21:48:33 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have googled a bit but cannot find references to this error.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

That’s the version I have running here on x86_64, runs just fine for me.

One difference, though, is that I’m running the desktop kernel rather
than the kernel you’re running - you might give that a try.

Thanks for the suggestion. I installed the desktop kernel, and ran

sudo vmware-modconfig --console --install-all

Which ran correctly.

System information is:

> uname -a
Linux lysander 2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2011-04-25 21:48:33 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

No change. Same error occurs.

Did the services also get started?

What dbus package(s) is/are installed on the system?

On my system, I have the following related packages installed (all are
probably not needed)

dbus-1
dbus-1-32bit
dbus-1-devel
dbus-1-glib
dbus-1-glib-32bit
dbus-1-glib-devel
dbus-1-python
dbus-1-qt3
dbus-1-qt3-32bit
dbus-1-x11
libdbusmenu-qt2
ndesk-dbus
ndesk-dbus-glib
ndesk-dbus-glib
yast2-dbus-client

Jim,

Yes the services started.

I have installed the dbus packages which I did not have, along with qt.

No change.

I then installed VMware 7.1.3 and patched it as per the instructions on this page:

http://blog.luisfreitas.pt/2011/03/12/how-to-install-vmware-on-opensuse-11-4/

Also no change.

I have also tried running vmware as root, same error.

I didn’t actually have to follow those instructions, it just installed,
built the modules, and ran for me.

Are there any other error messages when you run it?

The above displays on the xterm then the error:

I’ll admit to being a bit stumped here - what hardware are you using for
this system? Video might be relevant as well.

You might also ask over in the VMware forums and see if they have some
ideas.

Thanks. I have posted at the VMware forums. I’ll report any solution.

The hardware is pretty standard. A Core2 Quad Q9300, 8gb ram, 3 SATA disks.

The video card is old. A Radeon X600 Pro. I am only using one monitor with it, running the open source driver.

I don’t see anything in your config that should cause a problem to my
knowledge - hopefully the folks in the VMware forums will have an idea as
to what’s wrong here.

I have already reported this problem. The solution I have found is to restart dbus and then vmware start.

how does one go about restarting the dbus service?

I solve the problem. In YaST-System-Services we must activate the haldaemon.
