VLC integration in 11.4 - cannot drag and drop files

Hello,
With a default 11.4 (64bit) installation with Gnome - and using the 11.4 one click installer on
VideoLAN - VLC: Free streaming and multimedia solutions for all OS! - the 11.3 integration seems to have worked better.

The first issue is that it’s no longer automatically integrated into the right click context menu of movie files.

This integration happened in 11.3.

The second, which I think is user error but I really cannot get it to work is dragging and dropping files does not work.

-> Open Nautilus
-> Navigate to folder with movie files
-> Open VLC
-> Click on a file in Nautilus and try and drag it onto VLC
The VLC is hidden during the file click and drag, so a drag to the bottom panel is required to try and activate VLC - however, VLC is never activated. I have tried different positions on screen but still over the VLC entry to try and activate it, but nothing happens.

This same sequence on 11.3 correctly activates VLC so I can drag and drop.

A workaround on 11.4 is to make VLC “Always on top” via the right click menu on the VLC title bar.

Thanks

So I logged into openSUSE 11.4 GNOME, I normally use KDE and in fact I found that in Nautilus 2.32.2.1 I was able to navigate to my movie folder, right click on the movie, pick Open With and select VLC movie player from the list and it worked. Next I resized Nautilus (with my movie collection shown) and VLC in a second window and drug a movie from Nautilus to VLC and sure enough, VLC started playing the move. So, I am not sure what is wrong however, we do not recommend that you install VLC from the videolan repository, but rather from Packman. There is only one file you can get from Videolan and that would be libdvdcss so as to be able to play DVD’s. Once you have this one file, you should disable or remove the Videolan repository. You can add the following repository and replace VLC from Packman and see if it works better for you:

Thank You,

Yep, that works well - now. They seem to fianlly be about done with their
big re-org goat rope. Tonight “zypper up” pulled mostly updated versions
where yesterday many of the Packman versions were backlevels of what I
already had. “zypper dup” may be usable again - I’ll have to check when I
get time.
