after i installed tumbleweed and updated it, i was going to watch some videos i have stored locally, none show any image on screen, no format i have, old mp4, mkv, avi, it shows a black screen with around the size of the video
i opened discover and uninstalled it, then saw there is another vlc but from flatpak, i installed that one and that one opens all videos just fine
a bit odd that flatpak does perfectly when repo version shows a black square
perhaps i need to install something else apart from vlc or should i stay with flatpak version?
If you are good to go with Flatpak, stick with it.
Otherwise please see SDB:Installing_codecs_from_Packman_repositories
If you are just interested in VLC there is also the Videolan repository (several recent threads about that, search the Forums).
i heard about packman but tbh i dont see the need to add a repo that is seen as a problem in search of someone solving it
i think i will keep using the flatpak version, thank you
a question derived form your reply, flatpak is updated by myrlyn or better just run discover that looks for flatpak updates? i have not seem if myrlyn updates flatpaks, could swear it doesnt
Myrlyn does not touch Flatpak’s.
You can use Discover or flatpak update, see man flatpak-update for details.
