VLC does not play network stream anymore

Hi all,

Leap 15.6, KDE/Plasma, Wayland.
RTSP streams, which worked for long, suddenly stopped working.
Machine (barebone) “unchanged” except applying latest patches, regularly, automatically.

Started VLC from bash, to get log msgs:

...
[00007fb4c4011270] hevc packetizer: Waiting for VPS/SPS/PPS
[00007fb4c40109e0] main decoder error: buffer deadlock prevented
[00007fb4c4011270] hevc packetizer: Waiting for VPS/SPS/PPS
[00007fb4c4011270] hevc packetizer: Waiting for VPS/SPS/PPS
[00007fb4c4011270] hevc packetizer: Waiting for VPS/SPS/PPS
...

packman repo was and is installed and active.

Streams still working fine with vlc on Win11, Android and iOS.

Guess it’s a codec issue, but for sure not my home turf

Any hints, as I have no clue where to start and all hints “hevc packetizer: Waiting for VPS/SPS/PPS” are from 2020 and mainly Raspberry Pi etc ?

I’m not a multimedia expert, but let’s check the following first:

vlc --list | grep hevc
zypper se -si vlc-codecs ffmpeg

Can you play a sample local file ( .mp4 or .mkv with H.265)?
vlc -vvv sample_h265.mp4

Does ffplay fail to play these streams in the same way?
ffplay -rtsp_transport tcp rtsp://<camera_or_server>/path
