opensuse 15.3 leap
kernel 5.3.18-59.37-default
cinnamon

suddenly notice the vlc change his icon by adding Santa hat to normal icon, something like attached image.
1- is that mean the vlc connect to internet without my permission?
2- if yes, is there’s alternative app did not go through same behavior?
3- is there’s some how be sure vlc or any other app can not connect to internet without my permission?

It changes the icon based on your computers date (18th of December to 1st of January) and does not require any connection to do so.

If you want to disable it, you can go to VLC preferences and uncheck “Allow automatic icon changes”.

Its done that for as long as I used VLC - Windows XP in 2004.
