Virtual Box doesn't start

Hello everyone!
I just installed openSUSE 11.4 and after the installation of VirtualBox I coudn’t start it. The icon at the cursor kept jumping but no response. I tried to run the binary from Konsole and I got the following message:

VirtualBox: supR3HardenedVerifyFileInternal: Failed to open “/usr/lib/virtualbox/VMMR0.r0”: No such file or directory (2)

I checked YaST to see which packages were installed:

python-virtualbox
virtualbox
virtualbox-guest-kmp-desktop
virtualbox-guest-tools
virtualbox-guest-x11
virtualbox-host-kmp-desktop
virtualbox-qt

Is anything missing? I did install virtualbox on previous openSUSE instalations and I never got it wrong.
Thanks for attention in advance

Is your user a member of the vboxuser group?

Uwe

If you aren’t a member, you get a specific messages saying you have to be a member of the vboxuser group.

I am having the same kind of problem. I just loaded 11.4 over my 11.3 system, and can’t get virtualbox to work. I have tired directly loading from the SUSE repositories, and downloading the source from virtualbox.org and installing that. At the moment, I have
virtualbox 4.0.12-0.2.1
virtualbox-host-kmp-desktop 4.0.12_k2.6.37.6_0.7.0.2.1
virtualbox-qt 4.0.12-0.2.1
all from the opensuse repositories

When I start vbox the window opens, and shows my windows vm virtual machine. But when I try to start it, I get two error boxes. The first up says that it failed to open a session for WindowsVM and that it terminated unexpectedly. The details are

Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
Machine
Interface:
IMachine {662c175e-a69d-40b8-a77a-1d719d0ab062}

The second box says the vboxdrv is not loaded or there is a permission problem, and I should do
/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
This is a normal step when a new kernel is installed. When I do it, I get a message
Recompiling VirtualBox vboxadd kernel module, NOT. It has been packaged.

When I try installing my downloaded rpm, I have not executables at all.

So what can be done to get virtualbox running?

At the moment I am seriously considering going back to 11.3, even though it is no longer supported. At least it worked. (Note: I have already tried loading 12.1, and I can’t get that to work at all.)

So the file “/usr/lib/virtualbox/VMMR0.r0” exists on my computer. I Installed VirtualBox from the Oracle Web Site and I did not install ANY of the packages from YaST as you have done. I think I would go back to YaST, search on virtualbox and finding the seven packages you list, UNINSTALL them all!. Then, you need to go straight to the following article, read through it and do just as it says. The VirtualBox version for openSUSE 11.4 also works fine with openSUSE 12.1 which is what I use.
