Video stuttering in Firefox when sound is on

Hi there,

I am having some issues to get videos with sound reproduced in Firefox in my laptop (tumbleweed snapshot 20231029 on a Lenovo ThinkPad T14 using NVIDIA GPU driver). For example in youtube, if I play the video with no volume, the video plays smooth, but as soon as I put the volume up to hear the sound, the video starts stuttering.
I’m using pipewire for audio.

Anyone might have some hint on which logs could I check to see what could be the problem?

Thanks!

Regards,
Andres

Replying for documenting the solution, just in case it helps someone.
The issue was fixed disabling the HDMI audio output in pipewire (leaving just 1 audio output).
I think the issue was caused because pipewire seems to have problems dealing with 2 audio outputs (even when the HDMI should not be used as the monitor is not capable of playing audio) :man_shrugging:

Can you explain step by step how you did that? I am having audio problems too. In my case I would like audio and video over hdmi. See my post:

Hi, what I did:

  • Go to sound management menu in KDE bar (no need to go to settings, just the speaker icon in the right side of the bar)
  • Under the devices tab, I muted all the outputs/inputs that I’m not using (webcam microphone, etc.).

Just leaving the input / output that I’m using unmuted fixed the problem for me.

I’m on gnome. But thanx anyway. Will look into it.

I’ve got an update for y’all. When I change the output from digital surround 7.1 to digital stereo and back in system settings>sound, the problem goes away until a reboot or perhaps even a logout.
