Whenever the screensaver is not active I’m seeing the following messages in /var/log/messages, on a freshly installed 12.3 x86_64 system, every 1 minute or so:
2013-03-25T15:24:31.200819+01:00 vmhost dbus-daemon[1345]: dbus[1345]: [system] Activating service name='org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper' (using servicehelper)
2013-03-25T15:24:31.201484+01:00 vmhost dbus[1345]: [system] Activating service name='org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper' (using servicehelper)
2013-03-25T15:24:31.206824+01:00 vmhost dbus-daemon[1345]: no kernel backlight interface found
2013-03-25T15:24:31.213985+01:00 vmhost dbus-daemon[1345]: dbus[1345]: [system] Successfully activated service 'org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper'
2013-03-25T15:24:31.214193+01:00 vmhost dbus[1345]: [system] Successfully activated service 'org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper'
Because this is going to be a (mostly) headless server system, it’s not very useful to do any backlight thing. So how do I prevent this “clutter” to fill up my logs?
I’m not sure if I did anything specific to get rid of them. But if I check back in the log it stopped after a couple of days. I might have changed some settings, or just installed updates…
Now I only see some dbus backlighthelper messages in my log during boot…

Filter them out in the ?syslog daemon.
